FUSARIUM SURVEY Update June 14, 2012

The survey, started on January 2009, collected cases of Fusarium infections retrospectively (2007-2008) and prospectively. The survey will stop at the end of June 2012.

Cases were collected mainly in Italy. Other cases were reported from Greece (8 cases), Serbia (6), Czeck (3), Turkey (2).

A total of 31 disseminated infections (20 from Italy), 38 deep-seated infections, 11 keratitis and 2 peritonitis were reported.
The role of Fusarium isolates (83) from skin or nails is difficult to evaluate (true infection or contamination?)

Isolates were identified by sequencing elongation factor gene.
